On 29 June, a group of people from Framework Housing Association’s Nature in Mind project met with some of the project team to share information and experiences connected to The Forest and The Arboretum. We met at Framework’s offices on Forest Road East for what was intended to be a brief introduction followed by a walk across The Forest. The inclement weather, however, meant that the introduction took longer than planned and the walk across The Forest became a dash to the Homemade Cafe for lunch. It it mean that we had time to look at maps, books and photographs, discuss some of the historical background, ask and answer lots of questions and share our knowledge of Nottingham. After lunch, as the weather promised to improve, we met up with members of the Friends of the Arboretum, who gave us guided tour highlighting the oldest, rarest and best examples of trees in this very important collection. The Friends then opened up the bandstand for tea.
At the end of the day, one of the Framework group said “this would be a day they wouldn’t forget”, though cake may have played a part in this memory!
