The ‘Friends of the Nottingham Arboretum’ is involved in all aspects of park administration. Members have worked with the Council to produce an updated Management Plan, helped with labelling and conservation management of the trees and designed an Arboretum Tree leaflet and heritage trail for visitors. In 2012 the Friends organised a series of events to celebrate the 160th anniversary of the opening of the park, and are now working with Nottingham City Council to develop a new visitor centre and cafe on the site of the original (recently demolished) refreshment rooms, formerly the Arboretum pub. The surviving parts of the original structure will become a local history exhibition centre providing information on the park and its locality.
