Arboretum Annual History Talk, 16 May 2014

To celebrate the one hundred and sixty second anniversary of the opening of Nottingham Arboretum in 1852 there will be a series of short talks on aspects of the history of the Arboretum and other green spaces in the city by Professor John Beckett, Dr. Judith Mills and Dr. Jonathan Coope of the University of Nottingham and Professor Paul Elliott of the University of Derby who are all members of the Nottingham Green Spaces Community History Project team. The evening will also feature important contributions from members of our local community history group partners.

Subjects covered will include the enclosure of Nottingham and the formation of public green spaces in the 1840s, the role of nursery companies in landscaping and planting the parks, leisure and pleasure in the parks and how both the First and Second World Wars impacted the green spaces.

Everyone welcome and entry is free.
